Some of the earliest european settlers made their living by gum digging. Attached is a letter from resident diggers wanting to settle more permanently.
Anthony Petrie’s dragline uncovered these massive gum pieces. You can see his gum washing plant in the background. Fabian Petrie (left) and Mate (Matthew) are Franetovic (right) are pictured proudly displaying this gold of the swamp.
