The ARC operated two lake monitoring programmes in the Auckland region (see in Figure 11). These monitoring programmes were:
The Water Quality Programme
This monitored some of the physical, chemical and microbiological properties of
seven lakes around the Auckland region, six times each year. This provided information on the water temperature and the amount of nutrients, oxygen, sediment and other pollutants in the lakes. The results enabled the ARC to assess the life supporting capacity of the lake (how suitable it is for supporting life) and the microbiological quality of the lake (how suitable it is for recreational use).
The Ecological Quality Programme monitored the biological community of up to 29 lakes.
